Design Challenge

How might we help parents to juggle childcare & remote work during COVID-19 pandemic, in order to reduce distraction from kids and rebuild home and office boundaries?

Solution

The whole solution includes a physical product-PINFUN projector, and 2 digital products. The left one is mobile app for parents and right is projection game for kids. Children can play projection game with peers. Parents can track their children through PINFUN mobile app even they have scheduled meeting.

Usability Testing

Improvement:

Add the live video showing children’s friends on the screen

Before testing

After testing

Improvement:

I combined the “welcome,” “invitation code,” and “process bar” into one screen. This will allow parents to jump directly to the setting page.

And the serial number is shown on the bottom of the physical device. Parents just type device name and number to connect device to their mobile app.

Physical Product Testing

While I’m doing usability test for parents, I also test kids engagement. I bought a normal projector and setup it for the kid, then placed a phone camera face to kid to capture her movement. Her parents would see her activity through mobile app. Besides, I also used twister game to test if children could engage in floor game.

Impact

88% parents I have interviewed are interested in my product and would like to receive subscribed email in future when product is launched.

One bonus scene is that 2 parents mentioned this PINFUN projector is not only valuable for their children, also interests adults. They also can use this projector as regular use, such as watching film.
